Five Behaviors of a Cohesive Team Case Studies:
From Unaligned to Cohesive 

How three leadership groups at large organizations discovered the true power of teamwork

GROUP 3
An executive was new to an organization. They had the task of assessing the roles for each leader on the team, organizing the work to meet the needs of the institution, and building a cohesive leadership team with the existing and new team members. The executive reached out to Lisa for help.

GROUP 1 & 2
Engagement scores indicated there were some issues with a senior leadership team. Although the leadership team was given the task of closing the gaps, they just weren’t able to do it on their own. The vice president asked Lisa to help. 

PROCESS & RESULTS
Using the principles of building trust in one another, engaging in healthy conflict around ideas (as opposed to people), committing to the team’s decisions, holding each other accountable, and focusing on achieving collective results, these teams' effectiveness and impact improved dramatically.

And it showed. 

These teams' self-assessment -- their rating of their cohesion -- improved significantly over pre-program scores. What does that mean?  Before working with Lisa, these teams primarily rated themselves as average or below average in their ability to come together as a team. And, after working with Lisa, they rated themselves as being superior in team cohesion. In fact, when an expert at the organization that created the assessment reviewed the scores, they shared that they infrequently see such dramatic changes.

But there's more.

Before working with Lisa, the organizations in groups 1 & 2 conducted an employee engagement survey. A few months after completing the coaching program with Lisa, they conducted the same survey again. Their employees--arguably the most important constituents in this equation--saw the difference in their leaders' effectiveness.  The survey results showed that employee engagement scores went up significantly in confidence in leadership, communication, employee empowerment, feedback, and recognition.
